Bipolar Disorder Symptoms

Bipolar disorder is characterized by drastic mood swings, where the sufferer may go from ecstatic to depressed in a matter of minutes. One of the bipolar symptoms which is a good indicator is having manic episodes; these manic episodes are one of the bipolar disorder symptoms which differentiate the condition from other mood disorders.

Depression and manic states are bipolar disorder symptoms which should be watched for. Experiencing both states in a short times pan can indicate bipolar disorder.

If you are experiencing bipolar symptoms, you should see your doctor as soon as possible. They can examine you professionally and make an accurate diagnosis – this way, you can begin treatment quickly.

If you are not suffering from bipolar disorder symptoms, then they will typically perform further tests to find out what is causing your mood swings.

Treatment for Bipolar Symptoms

If your symptoms turn out to be bipolar symptoms, then the next step is to get treated for the condition. There are a number of different treatments – which will work best for you depends on a number of factors including your age, your general health, how long you have had the disorder and the severity of your bipolar symptoms.

Treating bipolar disorder is something which should be left to the professionals, no matter how much you may think you know about the condition. Since this is a mood-affecting mental disorder in which depression is common (and depression and mania can both cause people to make irrational decisions), you should never take your treatment into your own hands.

Medication is most likely what your physician will recommend at first. There are however, other things which can help. Sometimes even a change of scenery or shaking up your daily routine can bring some relief from your bipolar disorder symptoms. Bipolar symptoms can be severe – but with a physician’s help, you can get relief from the disorder.

What exactly is Bipolar Disorder?

Bipolar disorder is a condition in which the patient has large mood swings from very high to very low depressive moods. They can alternate between moods quickly but they do have normal periods of time too where no bipolar symptoms are exhibited. The very high moods are considered mania the very low moods are called depression or it can be a mixed episode.

Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder

There are basically 4 kinds of moods that can be symptoms of bipolar disorder. The first kind of mood is mania, which can be a feeling of euphoria, heightened creativity, or extra energy. When people go through this stage they can appear hyperactive, talk very fast, and sleep only for short spells. During mania or manic spells, people may feel they can do anything. If this gets out of control (which it often does) they may do reckless activities such as gambling all their money away, having wild sexual trysts, or other such behavior. Other bipolar disorder symptoms with mania can be anger, irritability, aggressiveness, and wanting to fight.

Hypomania is a not so extreme stage of mania same basic symptoms just not as strong though. This stage does not suffer delusions though.

Depression in bipolar disorder is a bit like regular serious depression except for a few things. One thing is the addition of the person having very little energy. They may also speak rather slow and move with little speed, and they sleep quite a bit. They can also lose all touch with reality when their depression turns psychotic. These episodes can make people feel very empty inside even to the point of contemplating suicide. Mixed episodes are just that a mixture of the mania and depression symptoms.

Types of Bipolar Disorder

Bipolar I Disorder is a mixture of the bipolar symptoms of mania and depression. Bipolar II Disorder is a combination of the symptoms of bipolar in hypomania and depression.

Cyclothymia is a combo of mild depression and hypomania. While Rapid cycling includes all types of symptoms: mania, depression, and hypomania.

Triggers of Bipolar Disorder

Some things that can set off episodes of this disorder are stress or emotional type trauma, any major life happening, abusing alcohol or other drugs, certain medications especially antidepressants, the changing of the seasons, and lack of sleep. As you can see, there are many things that can set this disorder off.

Conclusion

Trying to have a life with an untreated form of bipolar disorder will usually not be possible. This disorder can disrupt all areas of your life. Treatments can vary depending on which type of bipolar you are suffering from. But there are successful treatments to make your life easier. So do not suffer from symptoms of bipolar disorder go to the doctor and ask for help!

The Different types of Bipolar Symptoms

There are three types of symptoms for Bipolar disorders. These types of symptoms include psychotic symptoms manic symptoms, as well as depressive bipolar symptoms. If a loved one that you know has any of these symptoms then it is extremely important for them to seek medical assistance.

It is important to realize that there are tons of different Manic bipolar symptoms. But it is a fact that all of these symptoms share a similar feeling. Anyone that has this disorder will usually feel as if everything is running faster than normal and as if everything is bigger than life itself. You may be surprised to hear that people in a manic state can be extremely active at times. These types of people can be very talkative and even think faster than usual. This leads the person to exaggerate many things about themselves when they are talking to make themselves feel important.

Many of these types of people can often have big plans in their future. If these plans don't work these types of people will usually blame something else so that they are not at fault themselves. It is very important to realize here that these actions are not merely whimsical behaviors. They are actually disorders that are shown as symptoms by people that are bipolar.

Other Symptoms of Bipolar

Another characteristic of Manic people is that they tend to be reckless. This can lead to things that can eventually land them in jail and will most definitely affect their personal relationships. Many people will think that this is just a problem with a person's conduct. It is easy to make this mistake if you are not sure of what bipolar symptoms are. The fact of the matter is that these types of people will need medical assistance to improve their state of well being.

Many people do not realize that the symptoms that are associated with physical bipolar disorder symptoms of mania can be very obvious to the average person. If a person does not have a need for food or even sleep then they might be in the manic state. The fact is that many people need rest and sleep to maintain themselves.

Psychotic Symptoms of Bipolar

The other thing that many people do not realize is that psychotic bipolar disorder symptoms are most closely related to depressive bipolar disorder symptoms. The term known as Psychosis is merely a term that means someone has broken away from reality.

There are several different ways that Psychosis can come about in a person. These forms include hallucinations, hearing voices, and visual hallucinations. Another symptom that is associated with delusions is that people will have false beliefs. An example of this would be if a person thought they were a famous athlete.

If someone is depressed, symptoms of bipolar disorder can be seen if you look very closely and analytically. A sign of depression can be apathy, but there are other signs of depression that are much easier to recognize. If someone has low self-esteem and they are indecisive then they might be in a depressed state.

Physical Symptoms of Bipolar Disorder

The disorder of being physical bipolar has symptoms that generally include a change in a person's weight, fatigue, and changing in eating and sleeping habits. If a person is showing these symptoms then they are telling the people around them that they do not care about themselves.

A good rule to live by is that you should never look for trouble if trouble does not exist in that place. It is completely normal for people to have swings in moods or habits, but you should still be on the look out for the symptoms described in this article so that you can easily identify the symptoms of bipolar disorder.
